These are just examples—other documents may also be accepted. For the full list of requirements, visit the FLHSMV U.S. Citizen page.

Required Documents for Immigrants

If you’re a lawful permanent resident applying for a Florida driver’s license, you’ll need to provide proof of your immigration status, Social Security number (if applicable), and Florida residency. Some commonly accepted documents include:

Additional documents may be accepted. For the complete list of requirements, visit the FLHSMV Immigrant page.

Required Documents for Non-Immigrants

  • Valid Passport and Visa – Or an I-94 form
  • DHS-Approved Immigration Documents – Showing legal status in the U.S.
  • Proof of Florida Residency – Two documents, such as a utility bill, employer letter, rental agreement, or bank statement

Other documents may also be accepted. For the complete list of requirements, visit the FLHSMV Non-Immigrant page.

Required Documents for Canadian Citizens

If you’re a Canadian citizen applying for a Florida driver’s license without a U.S. visa, you’ll need to provide proof of identity and Florida residency. Some commonly accepted documents include:
