Taking the course isn’t automatic — you must voluntarily elect this option with the Clerk of Court in the county where your citation was issued, typically within 30 days of receiving your ticket. Once you’ve made your election, register for the course and complete it before your court’s deadline. Deadlines and procedures can vary by county, so confirm the details with your Clerk of Court.
What happens when I complete the course?
Once you pass, you can download your Course Completion Certificate immediately. Upon completion, the assessment of points must be waived, and the penalty and associated costs may be waived by the Clerk of Court. If a judge ordered you to take the course, you’re responsible for delivering your certificate to the court as instructed.
Will this course keep points off my license?
Yes — for first-time offenders who elect this option with the Clerk of Court, Florida law requires that the points be waived upon completion of the course. A handheld device violation in a school or work zone normally carries 3 points, so this course protects both your driving record and your insurance rates.
Is there a final exam?
No! There is no final exam at the end of this course, so there’s no need to stress. Instead, you’ll complete a short quiz at the end of each section to make sure you’re absorbing the material as you go.
How long does the course take?
The course contains 90 minutes of material, as required by Florida law. You don’t have to finish it in one sitting — log in and out whenever you want, and your progress is automatically saved so you can pick up right where you left off.
