Who can take the Florida Learner’s Permit Exam online?
The online exam is available exclusively for minors aged 14½ to 17. It allows you to complete the written requirement from home rather than at a DMV office.
What must I complete before taking the exam?
You must complete the Florida 6-Hour Driver Education Traffic Safety (DETS) course first. This course is mandatory for all first-time drivers under 18 in Florida. Once you finish the DETS course, your completion is automatically reported to the state, and you become eligible to take the permit exam.
What topics are covered on the exam?

The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. You must answer at least 40 correctly (80%) to pass. Topics include:

  • Florida traffic laws and signs.
  • Safe driving practices and lane controls.
  • Speed limits and seatbelt regulations.
Can I take the exam on my phone or tablet?

Do I need a parent present during the exam?
Yes. A parent or legal guardian must be present to proctor the session. After you pass, your parent will need to sign a Parent Proctoring Form (Form HSMV 71144), which must be notarized or signed in front of a DMV agent when you go to pick up your physical permit.
What happens after I pass?
Your results are sent electronically to the Florida DMV immediately. You do not need to bring a paper certificate of your test results to the DMV.
